276 SSX
I'm looking at the new 276 SSX. Does anyone have any pros/cons to enlighten a first time buyer? How does this boat differ form the SSI series?

Re: 276 SSX
I believe this boat is basically the 276 SSi renamed since there is no 276 SSi anylonger. Chaparral is touting this as a boat with the utility of a deck boat with the styling of a sportboat---hence the new classification, sportdeck. In my research, I cannot find any cons to this boat, other than you need a big truck to pull it, if you're into trailering. Pros: You name it. Lots of room. Lots of power. Tons of style. Deep freeboard. Built in swim platform. I ordered one in November, and its due to be delivered ahead of schedule, within the next week-10 days. Can't wait for some warm weather to give it a try!

Re: 276 SSX
Thanks dpweave. I've put a deposit on a 276SSX at a boatshow without doing enough research, which is unusual for me...love at first site I guess? I was looking to get some informed Chap owners comments to either support the purchase or raise the red flags.
Any other informed opinions out there before I take the plunge?

Thats cool. What color are you getting? Engine/sterndrive package? RAdar arch? Where do you do your boating? ARe you going to trailer the behemoth? Do you know when its due in? Or was it one that was at the boat show?

Re: 276 SSX
Sorry for the delay in reposnding dpweave. I bought the one at the OC boat show. Boat has the black wide band sport graphics, radar arch and most options. No trailering for me, this one will be dry stacked snd stored. The stern drive is the 8.1L Volvo Penta with 420 hp. It's not the ocean series which has me wondering a bit about the salt water usage? I guess it's not as much a problem with dry stack storage? I don't have the corrosion package installed either at this time. What do you think????

Re: 276 SSX
Sounds like a sweet package. I am not well versed in salt water boating and maintenance as there isn't much of that in the midwest. Since the boat will not be left in the water, and as long as it gets a good rinse/wash and flush the cooling system after time on the water, I wouldn't think there would be any problems with corrosion. Have you been able to drive your new toy yet? My 276 was delivered a couple weeks ago. Its sitting at the dealership with the shrink wrap on it yet. Weather (and water level) permitting, I get to take delivery of it on Apr. 14th. Hopefully I'll get a big tax refund to help fill the gas tank! I'll be interested to hear how well you like your new boat.

Re: 276 SSX
My first run is scheduled for this Friday, 4/6 so it looks like we'll be hitting the water just about the same time. I'll let you know how it goes. No doubt these boats will be thirsty.... but we knew that when we ordered them! Should be interesting to see how she handles as I've been hearing the 276 with it's 22 degree deadrise needs plenty of power? Thanks for the comments about salt water usage. Dealer feels the same way and assures me they'll take good care of the flushing, power washing, etc.since I'm dry racking with them. Hope yopu have a blast on 4/14 and a big IRS check to boot.

Re: 276 SSX
Hey Claudeo-
You know I am wondering how the 1st drive in your 276 went yesterday. I still have to wait another 168 hours until I get to go. Hopefully another 40 degrees warmer too. Feels like winter again!! My dealer moved my boat into the shop now and took the covers off. I am going out there on Tuesday to get the 'dry run' where she goes over everything in detail as far as how to use things and what to expect. Then delivery next Saturday. Should be a fun week! Let me know how yours is, and you should post a picture or 2. Happy boating!!
